Introduction
On 03 May 2017, the Iskandar Puteri City Council launched the “Education Sustainability Program Towards the City. However, this program was changed to the Local Education Sustainability Program Agenda 21 (LA21) on 22 November 2017 in conjunction with the upgrading of the Johor Bahru Tengah Municipal Council to the Iskandar Puteri City Council.
The Local Education Sustainability Program Agenda 21 (LA21) is one of the initiatives of the Public Health Department every year to raise awareness of the importance of environmental preservation and conservation. This program focuses on schools under the administration of MBIP by giving them the opportunity to practice, appreciate and cultivate the practice of maintaining environmental sustainability.
Objective
1. Increase awareness of the importance of environmental preservation and conservation.
2. Encourage school members to carry out environmentally friendly activities effectively and benefit every student.
3. Improve cooperation between schools and the community in making environmental education a success.
4. Creating a conducive school atmosphere in producing school members who practice sustainable living practices.
5. Creating informative and innovative organizations.
Evaluation Criteria
The LA21 Education Sustainability Program evaluation is through an auditing session conducted by appointed panel members in participating schools including National Schools, National Secondary Schools, Chinese National Type Schools, Tamil National Type Schools and Religious Schools according to the categories set by the Department of Public Health namely:
i. Greening
ii. Solid waste composting
iii. Recycle
iv. Canteen cleanliness
v. Toilet cleanliness

Programme and Activities
LA21 EDUCATION SUSTAINABILITY AWARD PRESENTATION CEREMONY 2024

A total of 43 of the 114 schools under the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) administrative area including National Schools, National Secondary Schools, Chinese National Type Schools, Tamil National Type Schools and Religious Schools have participated in the LA21 Education Sustainability Program in 2024.
The auditing session was conducted from July to August 2024 which was evaluated by an evaluation panel consisting of the MBIP Public Health Department, Johor Bahru/Kulai District Education Office, Johor Bahru/Kulai District Islamic Education Office, Johor Bahru/Kulai District Health Office, SWCorp Iskandar Puteri Branch and its concessionaire, SWM Environment Sdn. Bhd.
The award ceremony was presented by Encik Shahrulizam bin Abd Rashid, Deputy Secretary of MBIP for the Religious School category, while the award for the National School/National Secondary School/National Type School category was presented by YM Ungku Suzana binti Ungku Mohammad, Secretary of MBIP.
Mbip hopes that through this program, the school will be more committed and provide support in keeping the environment clean and be able to produce a quality and innovative generation
